When we moved to Maui we had a look at some of the tourism guides which do a great job of outlining some of the many activities you can do on the island. We’re nearing 8 months on Maui and have compiled a list below of the things we recommend EVERYONE do in addition to those awesome hikes and tourist sites – if you love the ocean, good food and great coffee, keep readin’!
WARNING: One of our hobbies is seeking and destroying awesome food. If you don’t like awesome food, you might as well skip this post entirely.
Partake in an outrigger canoe tour with Hawaiian Paddle Sports
When Adam and I moved to Maui one of the first things we did was touch base with Tim at Hawaiian Paddle Sports – their tours looked awesome on the website and didn’t disappoint! We did three tours with him and can’t recommend the service highly enough! The tours are personalized and fun, come prepared to learn about Hawaiian culture and enjoy a day out on the water with a no-frills and super fun ocean adventure!
Indulge at Kihei Caffe
Located across the street from the beach in Kihei, it’s rare to see Kihei Caffe without a line of hungry cafe goers wrapping around the front. The good news? Weather is mild so you’re waiting in the sunshine, the line moves quickly, and the food is awesome. My favorite is french toast with coconut and Adam loves the corned beef hash plate – we usually get both and share! It’s pretty hard to pass up the face-sized cinnamon buns at the register, too.
Nomnomnom an Acai Bowl from Wow Wow
We were skeptical spending money on a bowl of fruit and such… yeah, that skepticism didn’t last long. They are massive, delicious, nutritious and TOTALLY WORTH IT. Try the Haupia Ono… you won’t be sorry 🙂 If you’re really hungry, share a 32oz bowl which usually leaves us with leftovers for later in the day even when we split it.
Coconuts Fish Cafe for lunch or dinner
Share a table with a stranger and bond over the delightful array of food this place dishes out! Highly recommend the fish tacos, and their fish and chips is the best I’ve ever had!! And the sauce… ahhgggg.
Horhitos Mobile Taqueria
A food truck tucked away across the street from Kalama Beach Park (and just a few steps away from the aforementioned Kihei Caffe). Cheap and delicious – try the Mahi Mahi tacos x 2 and don’t forget the salsa… yum. Yum yum yum.
Flatbread Company in Paia
Looking for a good pizza? Look no further than Mopsy. It’s all you’ll ever need.
