Maui is a paradise for families, offering stunning beaches, lush landscapes, and a wealth of activities that cater to all ages. When planning your family vacation, finding the right accommodation, however is key to ensuring a fun and comfortable stay. Adam and I have two young kids. For this reason, we often recommend the condos below when it comes to referring clients to condos in Kihei. Kihei, located on the sunny south shore of Maui, boasts a variety of family-friendly Kihei condos that provide the perfect home base for your island adventures. We took into account proximity to the shoreline, ease of access to food and bev, and plenty of available amenities or activities. Here are five fantastic options to consider for your family getaway, along with reasons why Kihei is a great choice for families with young kids and teens alike.

1. WorldMark Kihei

We did a staycation at WorldMark in Kihei last year, and honestly, and it was the perfect base for our family. It’s got a great pool, which the kids loved, and a responsive the friendly front desk staff. Nestled right by the beach, WorldMark Kihei is an excellent choice for families. This resort features spacious two- and three-bedroom condos, complete with fully equipped kitchens, living areas, and private balconies—plus, it’s walkable to the beach for sunsets after a long day of exploring or relaxing. It’s conveniently located near shopping and dining options, including food trucks, ensuring you have everything you need within reach.

Enjoy the convenience of full kitchens and private lanais, perfect for meals or morning coffee. The property features two pools, tennis courts, and is just a short walk from Kamaole Beach Park, where you can spend hours playing in the sand and swimming in waters patrolled by lifeguards.

3. Maui Sunset

Maui Sunset is a family favorite, thanks to its spacious condos and excellent amenities. Each unit features a fully equipped kitchen, making it easy to prepare family meals or rip open a bag of takeout. The complex boasts expansive lawns, a large swimming pool, and barbecue areas for DIY cookouts. While it’s a bit further north than the rest of the condos on our list, the beach is just steps away, along with the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Visitors Center. The center is open Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m and features interactive displays, exhibits and various programs for the whole family to enjoy. We recommend grabbing delicious Indian cuisine at Monsoon India and having an afternoon stroll along the beach if it’s not too windy.

4. Mana Kai Maui Resort

For families looking for a beachfront experience, Mana Kai Maui is an excellent option. Vacationing in Kihei is Great for Families

  1. Family-Friendly Beaches: Kihei is home to calm, kid-friendly beaches, like Kamaole Beach Park and Keawakapu Beach. Ocean safety conditions can change from day to day, however, even hour to hour. Always check with a lifeguard, your resort or local resident and follow basic ocean safety tips before considering a dip. Remember, swimming in the ocean is much different from a controlled environment such as a swimming pool.
  2. Convenience and Accessibility: Kihei’s layout makes it easy to navigate with kids in tow. The area is relatively flat, and many restaurants, and shops are within walking distance or a short drive. This accessibility means less time spent commuting and more time having fun. Also, if going on foot, we recommend starting early – the sun here gets intense after 10am.
  3. Variety of Activities: Finally, Kihei is the perfect launching pad for activities on Maui. It’s an easy drive to Wailea with its shopping and resort dining, and about 20 minutes from Ma’alaea Harbor for snorkel and whale watching tours. Honestly, Ii you’re more of a sunshine and chill family, you’ll find no shortage of relaxing vibes in South Maui!

Three Family-Friendly Beaches in Kihei to Check Out

Kihei is home to several beautiful and inviting beaches. We recommend South Kihei, which has three of our favorite beaches to enjoy with our family.

  1. Kamaole Beach Park I, II, and III (Kams)
These three adjacent beaches are among the most popular in Kihei for families. With soft sand and ample space for beach games, they’re perfect for a day of sun and fun. Kam I hosts a lifeguard tower. Therefore, we always recommend swimming here with your family and staying mindful of their recommendations. Each beach has its own unique vibe, too, so you can explore all three during your stay!

  1. Charley Young Beach
Located just south of Kamaole Beach Park I, Charley Young Beach is a fantastic spot for families. This picturesque beach features soft sand, calm waters, and plenty of shade from nearby trees. It’s ideal for swimming, building sandcastles, or simply lounging in the sun. The beach’s gentle slope makes it safe for younger kids, and the nearby amenities, including restrooms and picnic areas, add to the convenience for families.

  1. Keawakapu Beach
Known for its soft sands and clear waters, Keawakapu Beach is another excellent choice for families. On the right day, it’s a great spot for swimming and snorkeling, making it appealing for both kids and teens. There are plenty of shade from palm trees and nearby grassy areas at the northern end of the beach. With some planning, your family can easily set up for a day of beach fun. If visiting the southern end of the beach, parking can be limited. Get there early to stake out a spot. You’ll need plenty of BYO shade if toward the southern entrace. The beach is relatively unprotected from wind, which is something to keep in mind when trades pick up around midday. Go early, and have fun!
