I had a REALLYYY hard time choosing just a few gowns to showcase so this is by no means an exhaustive list. I tried a few “bump friendly” options as well as some of their standard gowns as during the time of this shoot I was in my second trimester so didn’t need something holding a big belly just yet. A lot of our clients come to us in their first, second and early third trimesters, so thought all of the below would be great matches for a beach photoshoot with us!

Baltic Born Dress Review: My Top 5 maternity gown picks
1. Baltic Born Corinne Shimmer Maxi Gown
This was definitely a favorite. I LOVED the sparkle of this gown, and instantly knew it would be a hit for sunset with all the glitter and movement. Being in my second trimester I wasn’t 100% sure I needed a dress that would have a stretchy waistline. While the Baltic Born Corinne gown is not labeled as a “bump-friendly” maternity dress, it defnitely works in early pregnancy, I sized up to be on the safe side and the fit was great.
Color: Champagne
Reasons I love this gown: The Corinne Gown is soft with lightweight fabric and has a nice side slit which gives it more movement. This catches that Maui breeze perfectly without being a hindrance if the trades really pick up.
Recommended for: I chose champagne as it would work for both sunrise or sunset photoshoots. I can see this color really popping during an especially vibrant sunset! The gown comes in a variety of beautiful colors.
Model notes: That’s me, Shawn! At the time of the shoot, I was 23 weeks pregnant, 5’8″, 140 lbs, and wearing a size medium. I am generally a small but sized up as the waist is not adjustable, and found it was a great fit with room to move and not restricting at all. I recommend following the size guide on the Baltic Born website to find your perfect fit.
2. Baltic Born Eirena Sparkle Gown
The Baltic Born Eirena Sparkle Gown has a shimmer that gives off mermaid vibes! Super fancy and looks so nice backlit at sunset. It would also be great for sunrise in any color.
Color: Light Blue
Reasons I love this gown: This has some full-on goddess vibes! It is *very* glittery, and the glitter falls off a bit but I didn’t have an issue with this.
Recommended for: Sunrise or sunset shoots. This gown glows beautifully during golden hour and flows like a dream in the ocean breeze.
Model notes: I’m 23 weeks pregnant at the time of this shoot, 5’8″, 140 lbs, and wearing a size medium. I sized up because it wasn’t listed as “bump friendly” on the Baltic Born website, however on trying it on found I would have been okay with my standard size as there was a bit of room to move and the back straps are adjustable. This would totally work for a first or second trimester gown, maybe beyond depending on how your body is built. Be sure to check Baltic Born’s size guide for the perfect fit!

The Marseille Embossed Maxi Dress brings a touch of boho-chic to your beach photoshoot. With its lace details and fluttery sleeves, it’s as breezy as it is beautiful and felt super easy to wear.
Color: Champagne
Reasons I love this gown: It’s sweetly casual, with beautiful details. There are sleeves, but they’re sheer and not too fluttery so wouldn’t be annoying if the wind picks up. It comes in heaps of colors to suit your desired look. Overall, this was one of the easier gowns to wear. I like that it ties at the waist, too, for a looser or tighter fit if required.
Recommended for: Moms-to-be who want a touch of elegance and a gown that is versatile throughout their entire pregnancy and beyond. The champagne color is perfect for sunrise or sunset. It’s not too over-the-top and can be used in a variety of situations well beyond a photoshoot.
Model notes: I’m the model here! At 23 weeks, 5’8″, 140 lbs, I chose a size small. Since the tie waist is accommodating, I’m sure it will see me through ‘til later in my pregnancy, too.
4. Baltic Born Kamila Tulle Maxi Dress

The Kamila Tulle Maxi Dress is super easy to pull over your head for a quick outfit change. It’s soft, beautiful and easy to wear so you can focus more on posing and less on outfit adjustments.
Color: Whisper Blue
Reasons I love this gown: There’s a deep neckline, and the gown would work with an adhesive bra or potentially even a strapped bra so you don’t need to overthink your undergarments with this one. It’s simple and cute, not too over-the-top, and a great option if you prefer a more conservative style. It’s also easy to wear in a pull-over style.
Recommended for: This color would be especially beautiful with sunrise pastel tones. It comes in a wide range of colors and some options with printed florals that are super cute. We photographed this gown a bit after sunset so the tones are a little darker however it would really pop for an early morning shoot!

As soon as I saw this gown I knew I’d have to try it, and it ended up being onen of my favorites! Layla rounds off #5 of our perfect maternity dresses for a beach photoshoot. We spent a lot of time photographing this gown, it was fun and easy to wear and work with.
Color: Romantic Floral
Reasons I love this gown: Simple, elegant, and flattering, the Layla Tulle Maxi Dress by Baltic Born wraps perfectly around your bump. The sleeves were something I didn’t expect to love but they’re light and airy, and can be worn down or hiked up for a different look.
Recommended for: Anyone looking for a timeless, effortless style that’ll look amazing at sunrise or sunset. Perfect if you don’t want to worry about sleeves fluttering in the wind, or prefer a style that covers your arms.

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Maternity Dresses for a Beach Photoshoot
- Match the Mood: Choose colors that vibe with the scenery for your Maui maternity shoot: think pastels, soft neutrals or even rich jewel shades which look especially beautiful at sunset.
- Go With the Flow: Lightweight fabrics that catch the breeze are your best friend! Keep in mind the wind will likely be stronger in the afternoon on Maui. If your gown has fluttery sleeves, choose ones that aren’t too long so they don’t fly up on your face and neckline. The gowns above are great examples of perfect sleeve lengths.
- Comfort Is Key: You’re going to want to move, twirl, and maybe even sit in the sand. Pick a gown that’s comfy enough to do it all!
- Light It Up: I am personally to drawn to sparkle, which looks so good at sunset. If you want something less out there, a soft tulle works wonderfully.
- Choose the right undergarments: I wore an adhesive bra and shapewear underneath all the gowns in this photo. Be wary of the slits on some gowns that may show longer styles, you can also stick to bikini bottoms or seamless underwear as the gowns themselves are flowy and won’t show any lines on bottom.

My name is Shawn I’m a 40-year-old mom of soon-to-be-three, I love beach time with our family and home time caring for my many plant babies. After doing this shoot I want to say with 100% certainty that I totally relate to the questions and concerns we receive from clients shopping for their maternity gowns.
