We’re Shawn and Adam, your Wailea portrait photographers!

We’re husband and wife and the team behind Love + Water Photography. It took us over 8 years to get headshots, but it finally happened! Look ma, we’re all grown up!

Until last week I hadn’t had my hair and makeup done in 10 years, when I got all dolled up for our wedding day, only to have it melt away in the pouring rain as we exchanged vows. So having it done by MeiLi Autumn Beauty and Giovanna Beauty for our headshots by Ivette was a rare and real-life treat.

Between two kids and all little life happenings in between, I left the studio feeling like I had truly deserved that time for myself.

Here is a peek at a couple previews we got back, and also a glimpse at what our life is really like once the makeup rubs off and the collared shirt is untucked. First and foremost, we’re parents. Our entire business is built around our family and what works best for these kids – and that is what works best for us. 

When our oldest son was super tiny, Adam and I got caught on the west side of Maui at a wedding during a rain squall and I was hours late to return to our boy – that was the last time we shot a wedding together and have since distanced ourselves from large weddings entirely. It was what worked, and continues to work, best for our family.

When we began Love + Water, Adam and I shot side-by-side for two years. Five years ago we welcomed our first child (how is he 5 already??!), and Adam took the reins. Since then has photographed each of our Land + Sea Sessions and elopements. He’s taken on his role and used his creative freedom so well. And me? I’m busy too! I’m the one you chat to over e-mail, the one who sends questionnaires and packages your client goodie bags and edits your images. I’m here, he’s there, and it’s a perfect balance we’ve found works well for everyone – our clients included!
