One of the first things our clients ask us after their sunrise Wailea portrait session is, what are the best places to eat in South Maui?
There are so many good spots to choose, so we’re going to have to break this into a few different posts. To start with, though, here are our top-three go-to recommendations for places to eat in south Maui after your sunrise portrait session! We’re also sharing some beautiful images from a recent Land + Sea Maternity Session!
Places to eat in south Maui
Akamai Coffee (Wailea and Kihei locations) The Wailea location of Akamai coffee is closest to where your sunrise portrait session will be, so we always recommend going there after your shoot for a delicious latte and, if you’re me berry waffles! They always have yummy specials on their board and we always like to grab a bag of their 100% Maui coffee.
Their Kihei location is also a special spot, and I love to use the drive-thru window here when the kids are in the car. Adam and I have this weird thing where we’re in our 30s but still share coffees, so we get a large iced caramel latte with six shots. They pour in twos, ok? And 4 just isn’t enough.
Nalu’s South Shore Grill Adam and I give ourselves 3 hour date days every week, and Nalu’s is our go-to to kick things off! Looking for places to eat in south Maui? You can’t miss this spot! We usually go to Nalu’s first to get rid of any remnants of hanger 😉 then go to the beach for the rest of our time away from the kids!
Adam always orders Heavy Kine Breakfast and for me, it’s either cornflake crusted french toast or the fried chicken and waffle.
Hawaiian Moons When our son is in school we sometimes go here after drop off to get a smoothie and a breakfast sandwich. You can call ahead and place your order with the deli to pick up when you get there. They have an awesome assortment of healthy bowls, smoothies, burgers and breakfast sandwiches. While you’re there, pick up some local produce or just walk to the beach with your goodies (it’s just across the street) to have a picnic.
Spoon & Key Market Adam and I consider good food a mental health break, ha! I can’t go past the Gino’s Dakine (add jalepenos). The Market used to be located under Monkey Pod and moved to this epic new space just across the street. Great views, great food and a wonderful way to celebrate after a beautiful sunrise session!
So there you have it, part one of what I’m sure will be a 250 part series of places to eat and get good coffee in Wailea and Kihei. Looking for more suggestions? We’re an open book, so shoot us an e-mail! Even better, reach out so we can book you in for a Wailea portrait photography session – take care, and sea you soon!
