We photographed Diane and Christian’s romantic Wailea beach sunset portraits on a balmy and beautiful Maui afternoon. Want to know something funny? We nearly called this shoot for rain because just a minute down the road it looked like a storm was brewing!
We had a bit of faith in the fact that Maui’s weather is usually favorable in Wailea, and it ended up being one of the most beautiful afternoons we’ve seen in a while!

Looking for more reasons to book a sunset shoot during your Maui vacation?
Here are a few reasons you might opt to do a session at this time of day:
- It’s later in the afternoon, meaning that after (or before!) your session you can grab a happy hour drink or dinner, and make a date afternoon of it!
- If you’ll be travelling to Wailea from west Maui, there is plenty to see so you can have a day trip and visit some awesome beaches, do a photoshoot then take your time heading back to your accommodaiton!
- Sunsets on Maui are truly spectacular, and south Maui has some of the best we’ve ever seen. While it tends to be a bit windier, the trades are a welcome respite from the afternoon heat and make it super enjoyable to work outdoors.
- Choosing a sunset session means you have a little bit more time in the day to organize hair and makeup. While many makeup artists will work early for sunrise sessions. At this time, though, there is usually (understandably) a fee attached to an early start. Sunset means you can take your time, and grab dinner with your awesome hair and makeup afterward!
