Why choose sunset Wailea couples portraits? For starters, no waking up at the crack of dawn?! Seriously though, both sunrise and sunset portraits hold distinct differences and there are a few things to consider and reasons why you might choose one over the other. Here’s our take on sunset sessions!
Adam and I call vibrant sunsets “end of world sunsets”, and while they don’t happen often, when they do, they’re amazing! We can usually tell the afternoon light is going to be unreal by the style of clouds that pop up in the sky during the day. We look at each other and say, our couple that night is going to be stoked! When a sky lights up, it can really go off, making for some romantic sunset silhouettes and warm, vibrant light.
Maui’s colors are amazing – green palm trees, beautiful skies – and we try to do them justice by editing our images in a way that suits what we saw that afternoon.
Let’s be honest, the time difference does us a lot of favors for sunrise, but not everyone is an early riser even with that extra push. Sunset sessions are perfect for families who need a bit of padding on the day to get prepped to shoot.
If you’re staying in west Maui, the drive to south Maui where we shoot can be a bit tedious if there’s afternoon traffic. We always suggest our sunset portrait clients take the afternoon to travel slowly down to Wailea, enjoy some beaches in the area or even grab happy hour drinks and nibbles beforehand so no one is hangry!
While we can’t promise vibrant afternoon light for your sunset portraits, we can assure you that whether you choose sunrise or afternoon for your Land + Sea Session, you’ve made the right choice with Love + Water!
