Wailea Sunrise Portraits: Mermaid-Inspired Dreams

There’s nothing quite like Wailea sunrise portraits on Maui! As Maui photographers Love and Water, we love this time for day for both client and inspo shoots. The morning of this styled session we opted for a bright and enchanting color palette inspired by mermaids and sparkle. Alohi’s look was perfectly executed by Maui makeup artist Kymberly Marrs, and Maui florist Andrea of Petite Maui.

Her arrangements featured a mix of soft hues, perfectly complementing the dreamy sunrise portrait theme. Adam works frequently with our model, Alohi, and I was so happy to have the chance to work with her for this styled shoot. She radiated beauty, adorned with an open lei and a lei po’o, both crafted with delicate, fragrant blooms.

What to wear for portraits in Wailea?

Not having a particular outfit in mind, I brought along our pink Kasia Kulenty rental gown that ended up blending perfectly with the morning light. Alohi’s look was enhanced by the talented Kymberly Marrs, whose makeup artistry brought out Alohi’s natural glow, with shimmering highlights reminiscent of a mermaid’s sparkle.

These Wailea sunrise portraits were fairly spur-of-the-moment photoshoot, and we love it that way! It was a celebration of beauty, artistry, and the inspo created by a collaborative and creative team!

My favorite part of this Maui photography session is that this look is totally achievable for our clients. I can see this lei draping effortlessly over a babymoon photoshoot client. The mermaid palette would be brilliant on a mom-to-be or for a celebratory solo session or senior portrait.
